![]() Five squares represent the signal strength on the display screen. The display screen will show you alerts according to your desired “detail mode.” In More Detailmode, the RAD 480i displays the detected band, signal strength, and frequency (pulse rate for lasers). A red segmented character shows the current sensitivity mode: "h" (highway) or "c" (city), or an "L" for a laser detection. The band type indications are color coded: X (green), K (orange), Ka (red), and VG-2 (yellow). EXPLORE THE RAD FAMILYĭisplay: The RAD 380 has an easy-to-read color display which indicates the type of signal detected and a signal strength number from 1 (weakest) to 5 (strongest). The RAD 380 has an easy-to-read, multicolor display, and comes with suction cup windshield mount and straight power cord. Its high speed DSP (digital signal processing) provides earlier warnings and fewer false alerts, so you can drive without worry. Overview: The RAD 380 radar/laser detection system from Cobra protects you against all radar and laser threats. Although the screen is small, it’s easy to decipher between multiple threats simultaneously. What’s neat is how the Cobra RAD 480i can simultaneously display iRadar alerts with the countdown bar alongside other standard radar alerts with the signal bars. ![]() iRadar alerts include red light and speed camera locations, speed traps, air patrols (we received these warnings in Ohio), photo-enforced locations, and other caution areas. With the iRadar app, you can either report or receive real-time alerts generated by an entire network of users. The RAD 480i is compatible with Cobra’s iRadar app (hence the “i” in the name). The unit's LaserEye detects LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), commonly known as A handsome addition to your car Radar/Laser Detection: The RAD 380 detects X, K, and Ka band radar signals from any direction. The RAD 380 makes the most of this circuitry so you'll know as soon as possible what lies ahead. DSP technology is the same advanced techfound in more expensive radar detectors that delivers faster alerts so you can react from a position of strength. Further road construction in Indiana sent the RAD 480i into a frenzy. In Auto mode, the RAD 480i alerted to every road construction zone and flashing sign on I-75 through Michigan and Ohio. We went to a family wedding in Bryant, Indiana, about a 200-mile drive from Detroit. ValueĪuto sensitivity wasn’t much better for us on the open road, either, especially with regard to false alert filtering. Highway Mode sensitivity is the factory default, and utilizes no filtering. ![]() This will reduce false alerts while you are driving in, or near, urban areas where there are many sources that may trigger false alerts, such as automatic door openers or microwave towers. City Mode sensitivity delays the audio alerts for weak X band signals until they become stronger. Digital signal processing (DSP) for faster alerts Sensitivity Modes: The unit offers two Sensitivity Modes that adjust your radar detector to the driving environment. Cobra's 2nd-generation updatable In-Vehicle Technology (IVT)filter reduces false alerts from collision avoidance systems and adaptive cruise controls found in other vehicles on the road, both now and in the future as the technology changes. Audible & Visual Alerts The RAD 380'ssophisticated anti-falsing circuitry keeps you from getting annoying false alerts from automatic door openers, roadside traffic flow monitors, and other radar detectors. The RAD 480i is also VG-2 capable, meaning it can identify the infamous “radar detector detector.” If you receive a VG-2 alert after switching it on in the settings menu, it will be of a similar intensity to that of a laser threat. Cobra’s proprietary LaserEye technology (located on the top left-hand side of the unit) means the RAD 480i can detect signals from both the front and rear. The Cobra RAD 480i will alert you to X, K, and Ka radar bands and laser (LiDAR) guns. When it comes to the more affordable radar detectors offered by Cobra, there are two to consider: the RAD 480i and the RAD 380. The unit is invisible to VG-2 RDDs, and you can choose in the menu whether or not you want to be alerted to VG-2 RDD signals. VG-2: The RAD 380 can identify VG-2 signals from radar detector detectors (RDDs), and will alert you when one is in use near your vehicle.
